Germany's GUN RECORDS Closes Its Doors
February 13, 2009The Bochum, Germany-based rock/metal record label GUN Records (a.k.a. Great Unlimited Noises) has officially closed its doors. Launched in 1992 by Bogdan Kopec and Wolfgang Funk (who left his role as president of the company in December 2008) as a joint venture with BMG, the company had discovered and/or developed such successful artists as GUANO APES, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, OOMPH!, HIM, APOCALYPTICA, LORDI and STURM UND DRANG. During the Nineties, the label also worked with many German metal bands like RUNNING WILD, U.D.O., KREATOR, SODOM and RAGE.
According to Billboard, GUN's artists — including HIM, WITHIN TEMPTATION, DONOTS and OOMPH! — will now by handled by Sony in Munich and Berlin. International acts will be handled by the international division in Munich and the national acts by the Sony departments Four Music or Columbia Germany in Berlin.
Managing director Arno Hartfield and seven other employees are affected by the closure.
